24 - 25 FEB: WEST WYALONG RUGBY LEAGUE KNOCKOUT

Annual football competition. The premier pre-season event in country NSW, an evening competition under lights.

Teams from the Riverina, Central West, ACT and South Coast compete for $10,000 prize money.

Starts 6.00pm on the Friday and 4.00pm on the Saturday (finals Saturday night).

3 MAR: BARMEDMAN MODIFIED TWILIGHT TRACTOR PULL

Another side of rural living! Amazingly modified tractors and trucks in competition.

Annual festival attracting visitors from around the country (round 2 of NSW championships). Gates open 2.00pm - starts 4.00pm. Fun for all the family. Country market stalls, catering, meet the tractors and competitors, prizes for Best Esky

4 MAR: CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

Help clean up our Shire!

Volunteers are asked to meet at Lion's Park in West Wyalong (at the plane) at 8.00am with gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen, where you will be provided with bags and given an opportunity to fill out the registration forms. You will then be transported by bus to one of the pre-arranged locations. A free BBQ will be supplied afterwards.

Annual fair held from 4.00pm to 8.00pm - all welcome.

Lots of stalls including afternoon tea, BBQ and cold drinks. Second hand book stall and devine discounts; Heavenly Treats; Saintly Sweets; Fresh is Best; Gone Potty; and Krafty Kritters - all allow you to buy something to take something interesting home.

Activities for kids. Entertainment by local schools and organisations. Fashion parade at 5.00pm, and major raffle drawn at 7.00pm.

Traditional Anzac Day celebrations are held in towns and villages throughout the shire.

30 local businesses combine to celebrate Ladies' Day Out. A fabulous array of offers, events, food & drinks, classes, demonstrations, tastings, samples, sales, and a fashion parade.

Annual agricultural show featuring horse events, poultry, sheep and wool, and pavilion displays of farm produce, flowers, photography, arts and crafts, cooking and schoolwork.

Attractions include the tractor pull, home-brew competition, ute competition, bike decorating, machinery displays and stalls.

Annual agricultural show (both days) and 12th annual Beaut Ute Competition (see below).

Entertainment includes Circle Work Demonstrations; "Bear-Fax" playing Saturday evening at the showgrounds; DJ Music - Queensland Hotel Saturday 10.00pm to late; and Tori Darke appearing Friday 8.30pm and Saturday 5.00 - 6.00pm at the Barmedman Hotel.

Campdraft WEST WYALONG CAMPDRAFT

The West Wyalong Campdraft is the first event on the Southern Campdraft Association's calendar.  The event attracts up to 250 riders from southern NSW and Victoria.  

The Campdraft is a charity event with the Wyalong District Hospital being the beneficiary.  

Admission for spectators is free with the action starting at 7.00am each day.  A canteen will be operating over the weekend for meals and refreshments. Camping facilities available.

Mirrool Silos 13 OCT: MIRROOL SILO KICK CHALLENGE

The Mirrool silo kick challenge has grown into a post-season pilgrimage since Geelong's Billy Brownless thumped home the first silo kick in 1992.

The concrete silos are 30m high and 10m wide with a walkway across the top adding another few metres. Since the start of the kick, it has grown to incorporate the following events;

Junior Kick (5yrs to 11yrs and 12yrs to 16yrs.)

31 DEC: WEST WYALONG NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Fun for all the family, a bi-annual community fireworks display. Held from 7.00pm until 1.00am with a Hawaian theme (leis and homs supplied). Children's fireworks at 9.15pm and another display at midnight to bring in the New Year. Jumping castle, face painting, limbo dancing, sandcastle building and games for the kids.

Admission $10 adults, $20 family, $5 youth not with adult. Tickets available in advance from Cameo Inn Motel, Visitor Information Centre and the local pharmacy.

Food and soft drink available or bring your own hampers including alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages. NO GLASS to be brought to the venue.

26 JAN: AUSTRALIA DAY

Annual celebration of Australia Day with the Quota Club Breakfast and Official Australia Day Ceremony.

Mary McLaren will be the Bland Shire Council's Australia Day Ambassador for 2009. The Ambassador program will allow Ms McLaren to visit West Wyalong and some surrounding villages on Australia Day and share with the community, stories of Hope, Courage and Inspiration.

26 JAN: PACE FARM AUSTRALIA DAY PAVLOVA COMPETITION

An inaugural celebration held in 2006 has become an annual event.

To celebrate this great Australian icon and recognise the egg industry in West Wyalong, residents are encouraged to enter their interpretation of an 'Australian' pavlova. The options are limitless from traditional pavlovas to modern day interpretations with that little something different.

Generous prize money is up for grabs within the open adult and children's (ages 15 and under) categories. The Bland Shire Australia Day Ambassador will be the judge.

Entrants are to deliver their pavlovas on Australia Day to the Quota Club Breakfast in the Park by 7.45am for registration and judging.
